IGCSE Exam Day Rules and Regulations: What You Can and Cannot Bring
IGCSE Exam Day Rules and Regulations
Knowing exam day rules helps you avoid stress and disqualification. Rules are set by the board and your centre; here’s a practical overview.
What to Bring
- ID (e.g. passport, national ID) as required by your centre.
- Statement of Entry (or whatever the centre asks for).
- Pens, pencils, eraser, ruler (unless the centre provides them).
- Calculator only if allowed for that subject (check the syllabus and centre instructions).
- Clear bottle of water if the centre allows it.
What Not to Bring
- Phones, smartwatches, earpieces—usually banned and must be left outside or switched off in your bag.
- Notes, books, formula sheets unless explicitly allowed (e.g. in some language or maths papers).
- Correcting fluid (e.g. Tipp-Ex) is often not allowed; cross out mistakes neatly instead.
During the Exam
- Arrive at the time stated by the centre.
- Listen to invigilator instructions.
- No communication with other candidates.
- No leaving the room without permission (e.g. toilet escorted).
- Stop writing when told; do not open papers or use phones until you’re dismissed.
If You Break the Rules
- Minor issues (e.g. phone in bag but not used) may lead to a warning or report.
- Serious breaches (e.g. cheating, phone used) can lead to disqualification and no result.
- Your centre will give you a copy of the rules before exam day—read them.
