IGCSE Age Requirements and Restrictions: Is There an Age Limit?
IGCSE Age Requirements and Restrictions
Cambridge and Edexcel do not set a minimum or maximum age for IGCSE. You can sit IGCSE whether you’re in Year 10, retaking at 18, or an adult learner.
No Official Age Limit
- The boards design IGCSE for learners typically aged 14–16 but do not bar younger or older candidates.
- Early entry (e.g. in Year 9) is allowed if your centre is willing to enter you.
- Adult learners and retakers of any age can register as private candidates.
What Centres May Do
- Schools may have their own policy (e.g. only entering students in certain year groups).
- British Council and other centres might ask for proof of date of birth for admin; they don’t refuse on age alone.
- In some countries, under-16 arrangements (e.g. supervision) may apply—check with the centre.
Practical Takeaway
- If you’re eligible to register (through a centre that accepts private candidates or through a school), age is not a barrier.
- Focus on being prepared and choosing the right session and subjects.
